Moontime Aromatic Heating Pouch: Aromatherapy and Thermotherapy for Cramps

If you’re looking for a more natural way to ease some discomfort around your period, this herbal heating pouch takes just minutes to throw together!

Calming lavender and white basmati rice

When I was 15, I purchased a handmade herbal heating pad with lavender and rice. I used to pop it in the microwave every month and place it on my womb or on my back. I would also use it in the winter to warm me up at night and to help me drift off into sleep.

I lost it somewhere along the way in life but recently thought to revive some version of it! I ditched my microwave nearly three years ago and have never looked back but I thought, for a while, that this “luxury” must be forgotten because I was surely not going to be buying another microwave!

Until last month, when I could sense my first postpartum period returning. I could feel the cramps and I was also just feeling annoyed.

And then, without really even thinking about it, I walked into the kitchen in the evening, crushed some lavender buds with my mortar and pestle to release the oils, then put the buds in a pan with rice and turned my stove burner on.

I stirred the rice and lavender gently, feeling for the heat with my hands upon the rice until it was heated to my liking.

Then, I funneled the hot contents into a linen pouch! It was magical and everything I needed in that moment! You can use a dry goods bag you use for bulk shopping; or if you’re like me, you have a ton of cloth pouches and bags that came with children’s clothing made by smaller, more sustainable brands!

The lavender really has a calming effect and makes me feel a ton better to even just smell it. Often, I will drift into sleep - which is just what I need during this time.

You can also even add a little essential oil if you’d like - I just use them sparingly.

I would also say that you can experiment with using different aromatic herbs that might uplift you. Rose would have been lovely!

I hope you all enjoy this very lovely, easy, and sustainable way to support yourself during your moontime!
